India off-spin legend Harbhajan Singh said the coronavirus pandemic has taught him to be more sympathetic of other people’s pain and plight. The lockdown has affected millions in the country and Harbhajan Singh was among several celebrities to generously help the marginalised sections of society.

Speaking at Salaam Cricket 2020, Harbhajan Singh said he was blessed to be in a position where he could help people and he promised to continue to do his bit for the needy.

“Coronavirus has taught me a lot. Now I can feel the pain and plight of other people more than before,” Harbhajan Singh said at Salaam Cricket 2020.

“It is our responsibility to help people now. Thanks to the grace of god, we are in this position. I have tried to help as much as I can. Me and a few close friends sent ration to a lot of homes, helped migrant workers reach home.

“I will also try to buy a piece of land for farming in my village and distribute the products among the poor and needy people there. It is time we give back something to the society. Coronavirus has brought the human inside me alive,” Harbhajan said.

Harbhajan Singh said citizes also need to be responsible now that the lockdow is being gradually lifted. The star spinner, who now plays for Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League, said people should be careful when they go out and take precautions like wearing masks and washing their hands regularly.

“We have to be careful and we hve to follow the dos and donts. The country needs to progress and the economy needs to open up so we as citizens need to be responsible. It starts from me and we need to ensure coronavirus does not spread further,” Harbhajan said.

Suresh Raina, who was on Salaam Cricket alogside Harbhajan Singh, said his family was proud of him for his contributions to PM CARES.

“As an Indian I thought of helping people. I discussed with my family, they are also proud of me. Thanks to our honourable PM Narendra Modi for giving us the guidance. When we won the World Cup so many people prayed for us now it is our time to help those families in whatever way we can. I couldn’t watch the plight of the people,” he said.
