Mumbai has been witnessing a heavy cloud cover since Saturday morning and the weather department has forecast that monsoon rains will be lashing the city on June 14. The southwest monsoon has already arrived in Maharashtra with rains lashing some coastal parts of the state, an India Meteorological Department (IMD) official said.
In the last few days, pre-monsoon showers hit several parts of the state, including Mumbai and its suburbs. The Mumbai civic body last week issued an advisory fearing rise in monsoon-related diseases in addition to the coronavirus infections.
According to the IMD, Mumbai city would experience cloudy sky with heavy rain. While Mumai generally witnesses monsoon rains by June 10, the IMD has estimated that it would arrive by June 15.
Rest of Maharashtra
Monsoon has already covered most parts of Konkan, Marathwada and Vidarbha. In the next 24 hours, it is expected that the entire state will be lashed by the monsoon rains.
Deputy Director General of Meteorology, IMD, Mumbai, KS Hosalikar said, “Onset line now from 18°N AS, Harnai, Ahmednagar, Aurangabad, Gondia, Champa, Ranchi. Conditions are favourable for covering remaining parts of Maharashtra, including Mumbai, parts of S Guj in next 24 hrs.”
